By Air to Medellin:

In Medellin there are two bus terminals. The North Terminal connects to the Metro system.

Bus Transportation:

The Metro and the Metrocable system are an integrated system of transportation that cover from North to South and East to West.

The Metro operates from Monday to Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 11  p.m.  Sundays and holidays from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Metrocable operates from Monday to Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 11  p.m.  Sundays and holidays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The rest of the city is serviced by private bus lines. The average price in 2013 is $1.600 COP . There are no transfers between private lines.

 

Taxis:

Taxis in Medellin are regulated by a taxi meter.  The value of your fare is indicated on the meter.  In the evening there may be an additional surcharge. It is always better to call a known taxi service than to hail one in the street.

Orientation in Medellin:

The Rio Medellin runs from the south to the north of the Aburra valley. The carreteras in the city run ”parallel” to the river and the calles basically run east to west. The neighbourhood of Laureles  is a bit more complicated having ”ciculares’, diagonales and transversales”

The main roadways are the South and North freeways – Autopista Sur/Norte, the Regional, Las Palmas (takes you to the airport), Industrial Avenue – Avenida de los Industriales, East Avenue – Avenida Oriental, Avenida la 33, Avenida San Juan, Avenida ”la 80”.  In district of El Poblado you have Las Vegas Avenue,  Poblado Avenue (the Golden Mile), Transversal Intermedia, Transversal Inferior (runs North to South) and Transversal Superior (basically runs south to north which a slight exception at the north end).

Climate in Medellin

Medellin is known as the ”City of Eternal Spring” and has a spring-like climate all year round. There are rainy periods in April and October. The mean average temperature is 25 C with a fluctuation between about 18 C and 29 C.  As you move eastward up the mountain to the International Airport the temperature will drop up to 5 degrees C. As you head westward to Santa Fe de Antioquia the temperature becomes warmer.
