Panama is a regional hub of trade and immigration. The American influence has created roadways here to make any North American jealous. Infrastructure is spot on.
But it’s more than that.
A landscape of tall, mist-covered mountains, long rivers, and fertile valleys are in this land of immense beauty. Stroll along the coast and sink your toes into sandy beaches. Appreciate the waters that boast a rich diversity of marine life.
Breathe life into your adventurous soul with white-water rafting, ATV touring, flying through the canopy on a zipline, mountain climbing, hiking, and camping.
Let’s not forget coffee. Your tastebuds require an adventure, too. Potent, shade-grown arabica is never more than a café away. Farm-to-table meals are yours for indulgence.
Wander around gorgeous towns and smell the flowers. Feel the air of the rainforests, rich with wildlife, ignite your soul. Cloud forests, relaxing parks, booming cities, and bustling towns—Panama is diverse.
Parque Nacional Volcán Barú houses Volcán Barú, Panama’s only volcano. Although it is no longer active, it has seven craters. At its summit, the highest point in Panama, relish views of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts on a clear day.
The national park is also home to Sendero Los Quetzales, one of the most scenic treks in the entire country. The trail is one of the best places in Central America to spot the rare quetzal, the most famous bird in Central America. Today, quetzals symbolize freedom in Central America. That’s my kind of bird.
The Maya bird of paradise is elusive. If it doesn’t show, the park is home to more than 250 bird species as well as pumas, tapirs, and the agouti paca, a large, spotted rodent aka conejo pintado (painted rabbit).
