The easy part is over: you made a New Year’s resolution to escape for a while in 2020. Now comes the tough part: deciding where in the world you should go. The possibilities are seemingly endless…are you looking for a tropical getaway to just relax on the beautiful beaches of Fiji, do you want to see the ancient historical sites of Rome, or enjoy the non-stop nightlife of Dubai?
Here are some of the hottest travel destinations for escape artists in 2020.
1. Hampi, India
If you’re looking to see history come alive, then Hampi, India should be high on your list of travel destinations. Hampi is home to the 14th-century capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, which was among the world’s largest cities.
The recently completed 46-room guest house spread across the area was designed to fit in with the ancient Vijayanagara theme. According to the director of the Banyan Tours in India, “The property is a game changer for visitors to Hampi.” With the luxury lodging, travelers can enjoy the historical artifacts, monuments, and temples without having to travel a great distance from their hotel.
2. Colombia
If you’ve wanted to visit Colombia, but had a (legitimate) fear of visiting the coffee capital of the world, your patience is about to be rewarded. Now that the country has signed a peace treaty with the guerrilla army they’ve been battling with for the past 52 years, tourists can once again visit this great country without worry.
If you can, schedule your trip between November and March and experience the local coffee harvest. The area known as the coffee triangle is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range and has sleeping accommodations throughout the area.

Thanks to the mix of rainforests and highlands, Peru is the natural habitat for thousands of unique mammals, birds, and reptiles. If you want to take a break from nature, you can learn about the ancient Incan civilization by visiting the 15th-century citadel known as Machu Picchu.

There’s a lot going on in Barcelona that would make any vacation special. Football fans can enjoy watching Lionel Messi, one of the best soccer players in the world, as he captains the FC Barcelona team. But the reason we’re including it on the list is the amazing nightlife this city has to offer.
